According to the mayor on the spot, the dynamic development of the city is accompanied by traffic difficulties.
– We expect a huge increase in turnover year after year in Debrecen. One of the ways to handle this is the dynamic development of public transport – explained László Papp.
In February 2021, DKV Zrt. Announced the public procurement procedure, which was won by DKV’s previous partner, Inter Tan-ker Zrt. According to the agreement, the old buses will be replaced. A total of 119 Mercedes buses will be available by October 2024.
– We announced a new environmental policy in the autumn of 2019, one of the very important elements of which is the city’s public transport. These vehicles meet higher environmental standards than those in service so far.
Seventeen reductions in CO2 emissions for public transport vehicles, fifty reductions in particulate matter emissions
Said László Papp.
The mayor said that with this step we have not reached the end of the development of public transport, as twelve purely electric buses will be in operation in Debrecen this year. In addition, an important element of the Debrecen 2030 program is the development of the city’s tram network: the construction of the triple tram line will also be on the agenda.
László Papp said that the planning of the main railway station will start in 2022, organized and with the participation of Nemzeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt.
Szabolcs Tóth, CEO of DKV Zrt., Talks about
six more articulated buses will be taken possession of this year, and the number of new vehicles will expand at different rates.
Member of Parliament Lajos Kósa pointed out that the buses that are now being replaced are thirteen years old.
– The interesting thing about the new buses is that except for the articulated vehicles, they were all manufactured in Debrecen. We can be proud that local buses can run on Debrecen’s roads. What is new about the vehicles is that the handrails will also be heated, he said.
György Kossa, President and CEO of Inter Tan-Ker Zrt.
– Not only do these buses reduce the environmental impact, but they are also economically favorable, as their consumption is significantly more favorable. The buses are equipped with cameras, which also strengthens the safety of passengers and traffic safety, and passenger counters are built in, which helps DKV to work on this, he explained.
In parallel with the commissioning of new vehicles of the age, the old Volvo Cívis 12 and 18 buses will be taken out of service by DKV Zrt.
