Monaco (AFP) – Belgian coach Philippe Clement is committed until June 30, 2024 with Monaco, where he replaces the Croatian Niko Kovac, dismissed at the end of last week, announced Monday evening the club of the Principality.
Aged 47, Philippe Clement was the coach of Club Bruges, current 2nd in the Belgian championship and with which he was champion in 2020 and 2021. A former Belgian international midfielder, he had previously led Genk to the title of Belgian champion in 2019.
“His demonstrated ability to pull the group of young and talented people while reaching ever higher goals over the course of his career in the right person to pursue logically, and with ambition intact, the chapter we opened at the start of the last season aimed at bringing AS Monaco back into the elite of French football and on the European stage on a lasting basis, “said Oleg Petrov, the club’s vice-president and general manager in a press release.
Clement will lead his first training Tuesday and will be on the bench of Monaco, current 6th in L1 four points from 2nd place, Sunday in Nantes on behalf of the 20th day.
