Rouen: altruistic and passionate about mechanics, Selim Adacci is the 2021 laureate of the Young Apprentice Foundation
Created in 1979, the Fondation du Jeune Apprenti aims to highlight young people who have distinguished themselves in their studies in the food industry, construction, manufacturing, transport and repairs and other services. Their apprenticeship training centers (CFA) and their apprenticeship masters bring their case before a jury made up of professionals from the regional chamber of trades and crafts of Normandy. For the 2021 promotion, among 193 contenders, Selim Adacci was rewarded for his career combined with his passion for mechanics and his altruism.
Born in Rouen to a family of Algerian origin, Selim always saw his father with his hands in engines, “even if that was not his job. It was a real passion that he passed on to me ”indicates the young man. So, after elementary school in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, then a Bac S level at the Lycée des Bruyères, he follows a mechanical CAP level training at Afpa (National Agency for Adult Vocational Training) in Evreux: ” I followed a general education, because I did not really know how to orient myself. Only the mechanics were still in my head. At Afpa, I had to do an internship to validate my training. I discovered Solidarauto on the Internet and I introduced myself spontaneously. It was a revelation, ”recalls Selim.
Since 2019, he has therefore come every day to refurbish or repair used cars for people with financial difficulties and followed by social services: “I really realized the importance of a vehicle in the life of some people to support themselves. They do not have all the means to buy one and especially to maintain it. So, I have the impression of their ease of life ”. Thus, registered at the CFA La Châtaigneraie in Mesnil-Esnard (near Rouen), the apprentice obtained his Bac Pro Mécanique and continues his course in the 1st year of BTS.
“I would like to be hired”
Proud of the trophy of his foal, Stephen Becuwe, the workshop manager of Solidarauto is not however surprised, because “I quickly spotted his potential and his aptitudes with our beneficiaries. Today, he is able to restore a car from A to Z. From the start, I put him in the position of a professional mechanic. He’s really someone you can lean on. Being in a solidarity garage allowed him to acquire the skills necessary to be the top of his class. Here, we do not have the tools that the dealers have. We managed to get him to learn in good conditions. That it forces him to look a little more. This award is deserved. Now, I would like to be hired ”. It may not yet be Selim’s goals, “because I will probably continue with a license. But, it will always be in the mechanics. It’s really a job as I imagined it to be. In addition, my values of solidarity are consolidated thanks to my experience at the solidarity garage. So this will now remain all my professional and personal life ”. He will be received on January 13 at the Regional Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Normandy.
