Portugal recorded 45 earthquake warnings over the last year
Over the past year, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued 45 earthquake warnings in mainland Portugal, advances the ‘Correio da Manhã’ (CM).
According to the same publication, most earthquakes recorded in 2021 in mainland Portugal did not exceed 3 on the Richter scale, but there is a more recent one that stands out from the others, due to its strong intensity.
At issue is an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, recorded on Saturday night, in the Algarve region, with an epicenter located about 85 kilometers south of Faro, in the Gulf of Cádiz, 12 kilometers deep.
It was in Olhão that the intensity of this earthquake was hit the hardest, however, the earthquake was also hit in other areas of the Algarve region, namely in Loulé, Portimão and Faro, according to the newspaper, which cites reports from inhabitants.
“It made the computer shake. “It felt good, dishes rattling, toy cars in the child’s room fell off the furniture,” said residents of Loulé. “I’ve never felt this, I’m still scared”, said another Faro resident. “In Portimão it is also important, with four people conditioned on a seventh floor and we all felt it, even the Christmas tree was shaking”, describe to the newspaper.
But it was not only in the Algarve that the earthquake was felt. The meso also happened in some areas of Alentejo. “I felt it in Beja, I was in the living room and the crystals on the shelf tinkled for about 3 seconds”, can be read in reports on social networks.
