In Saint-Pair, near Caen, the Christmas decorations were again stolen or damaged
Ten wooden trees, about fifteen reindeer, an electric Santa Claus, the elves with their house, flowerpots, the stars on each tree, six deer… On the night of the 1stuh January 2022, Christmas decorations were once again the target of criminals in Saint-Pair.
At the beginning of December 2021, already, the sleigh of Santa Claus and other elements had disappeared in the small town near Caen.
“It makes you want to do nothing more”
This time around, facilities that couldn’t be stolen, possibly too crowded, or defined by chains, nails or screws were damaged on the spot. “Either it came or it broke, bitterly notes Patricia Lecomte, the mayor. We had barely recovered from the previous flight, it makes you want to do nothing more … “
However, the village square was pretty with all these decorations made by volunteers. Volunteers who, each year, give of their time to brighten up this holiday season.
Other thefts and damage in the department
The only positive glimmer in the midst of this bad news: the solidarity that was put in place after the first flight. “It is heartwarming”, thanks the mayor. Individuals wished to participate financially in the purchase of decorations while a municipality offered those which it no longer used.
In Calvados, Saint-Pair is not the only village in which the magic of Christmas has taken a hit this year: Lisieux, Rosel, Bernières-sur-Mer or Port-en-Bessin have also been rewarded with flights or damage.
