Dewsbury Arts Group opens its theater production Switzerland
The amateur production «Switzerland» by Joanna Murray-Smith will be presented in consultation with Nick Hern Books and will be directed by Steve Goddard.
The novelist Patricia Highsmith (real author of “The Talented Mr Ripley” and “Strangers on a Train”) lives secluded in her house in the Swiss mountains. In seclusion, that is, until the young Edward Ridgeway comes unsolicited by her publisher to persuade her to write another Ripley novel.
Patricia is cynical, uncomfortable, manipulative and wants to be left alone. Edward is naive, optimistic and wants to boost his career with the book deal.
Only one of them can be successful. But at what cost?
Steve, the director, happened upon “Switzerland” during its West End debut in 2018 after buying a ticket at the Leicester Square kiosk without knowing anything about the play.
He fell in love with his darkness and the interaction between the two characters.
A Sunday Telegraph review said Switzerland was “a gripping psychological thriller. Crawl up to you and then bring you to the edge of your seat ”.
Be warned that with all black humor in this production, there is strong language and some sensitive issues (racial comments).
The play opens on January 15 and then runs January 17-22 with performances at 7:30 p.m. at the David and Judith Wood Theater in Artspace, Lower Peel Street, on Bradford Road, Dewsbury, WF13 2ED.
Tickets cost £ 12 and can be purchased by calling 0333 6663366 or online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/dewsburyartsgroup. get booked
