Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden has received criticism for her choice of dog and for the first time, the Crown Princess has reacted to the strong criticism directed at the family’s choice.
When Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel got a small dog for the family in 2020, many were happy as a pet can contribute to a lot of happiness in a family. It is also educational and provides development for both children and adults to have a pet to take care of.
When the first pictures of the adorable puppy Rio came out, many people posted supportive comments on the royal family’s social media. Still, not everyone was completely satisfied. Rio is a mix between a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and a poodle. The poodle in particular has been very popular in mixed breed breeding in recent years in Sweden. The most common mixes are Poodles with Labrador or Cocker Spaniel, but the Cavalier mix has also become popular.
Among other things, this caused the Swedish Kennel Club to react. In an open letter, their chairman urged the Crown Princess to think more about the breeding she supports by acquiring a mixed breed.
In an interview with Svenska Dagbladet that was published on New Year’s Day, Crown Princess Victoria responded to the criticism for the first time. Rio has a prominent role in the article about Crown Princess Victoria. The magazine accompanied Her Royal Highness on an unofficial visit to Gripsholm Castle, which she did in June when Rio was of course in place.
The author of the article, journalist Ylva Lagercrantz Spindler, said: “But the Crown Princess does not seem to have taken condemning views. On the contrary, she shows a curious interest when I tell her that we also have a mixed breed, a mix between Spanish Water Dog and Labrador. ”
