CoV increase again since the turn of the year – salzburg.ORF.at
Coronavirus
The corona numbers in Salzburg have increased significantly again since the turn of the year. Although significantly fewer tests were carried out between the holidays, almost 500 new infections were reported by the country on New Year’s Day and a further 400 new infections on Sunday.
The seven-day incidences in some tourist strongholds are already reaching alarmingly high levels again. The increase in the number of infections is particularly dramatic in Pongau: there, the seven-day incidence has quadrupled to 800 within four days.
Pongau badly affected
With currently infected people and an incidence of 3,420, Flachau (Pongau) is the negative record holder, while St. Martin am Tennengebirge (Pongau) has just under 1,900. The Pongau towns of Untertauern and Filzmoos also have values of over 1,700 each. Almost half of the cases are already on the omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Nationwide incidence at 360
Nationwide, the seven-day incidence is 360. Currently 2,800 people are treated, 47 have to be treated in hospital, 18 of them even in intensive care units. In any case, the proportion of Omikron cases continues to increase, observed state statistician Gernot Filipp. The contact tracing runs seven days a week and is carried out in suspected Omikron cases with greater attention to the environment of the infected, according to the statistician. The fact that only six percent of intensive care patients are fully immunized clearly shows in Salzburg how important vaccination is against a serious course of the disease, emphasizes Filipp.
And because the Omikron variant of the coronavirus is rapidly gaining ground, the Covid crisis coordination GECKO will meet on Tuesday for a briefing – the next federal-state GECKO summit is on the program on Thursday.
