Corona in the Antarctic +++ Zurich Airport is recovering from Corona
Some experts warn that the omicron wave could get out of control. Hospital managers fear that they will have to perform hard triages. There is also the risk that public life and supplies in Switzerland could be massively restricted because so many are sick, in isolation or in quarantine.
But there are also a number of experts who see Omikron as the beginning of the end of the pandemic. the “View” has brought together some hopeful voices: The Austrian infectiologist Christoph Wenisch, for example, sees the turning point of the pandemic in Omikron. The coronavirus will no longer go away, it will be easier to transmit, but less virulent, and will also cause less serious illnesses.
Even Germany’s new health minister and well-known warner Karl Lauterbach speaks of light at the end of the tunnel thanks to Omikron. Researchers from Israel, the country that vaccinates faster than everyone else, come forward who believe that Omikron will end the pandemic because it will ultimately infect everyone and thus ensure a sufficiently high level of immunity in the population.
And at least one hospital representative is hoping for the new variant: Michael Weber, President of the Association of Leading Hospital Doctors in Germany. If Omikron spreads as rapidly in Germany as in South Africa, England or Denmark, but causes as few severe courses as there, then the virus will soon no longer be a relevant threat to the health system.
Nevertheless, many emphasize how important it is that the omicron wave is now resolutely fought, for example the molecular epidemiologist Emma Hodcroft.
