The conflict between garbage collectors and the Metropolis is bogged down in Toulouse
At the time of the start of the school year in January, trash cans continue to pile up in the streets of certain Toulouse neighborhoods. During the holidays, they filled up with Christmas and New Year’s waste. In some places, they have not been picked up since the start of the holidays, which tires residents and traders.
The garbage collectors defended the end of the finished party, the practice of returning home once the tour is over. This practice is now illegal, it was necessary to exclude the negotiations. To compensate, the metropolis offers additional days of rest. Two per year. An insult for the inter-union, which takes the example of the municipal police officers, who have them, eleven. Difficult to compare according to elected officials. The conflict gets bogged down in this part of the negotiations.
Other subjects have made good progress : the increase in the team leader’s salary, for Saturdays and holidays.
The strikers by intimidating Jean-Luc Moudenc
A meeting, scheduled for December 24 did not even take place: the garbage collectors wanted to bring it forward, without a response from the Metropolis. So, negotiations are difficult. 90% of garbage collectors are on strike according to the unions, 40 to 50% according to the Metropolis which includes contractual and seasonal workers.
The strikers are now calling on Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse to resolve this situation. Call unanswered at this time. The left opposition is even and calls for the resumption of negotiations, to put pressure on politically. For the moment, the holidays are over and many trucks are left at the depot.
