Police expand their own rescue service
timeline
The Salzburg police are expanding their own rescue service: specially trained paramedics are there for routine operations, but also for major events. They worry about injured colleagues in dangerous situations.
Terror, demonstrations, high-risk football games or the opening of the festival: the Salzburg rescuers are there in police uniform for operations with an audience or in a special danger situation.
60 – a third of them are women – have completed their training as paramedics with the Red Cross or the armed forces. They help when it is too dangerous for other paramedics.
Police officers with basic medical training
“We are there for our colleagues from the police in an emergency. We are trained and educated very versatile – we care for injured colleagues as long as the Red Cross cannot drive. Then we hand them over to the rescue service, ”says Robert Herbst from the Seekirchen police station (Flachgau). In principle, all police rescuers are police officers, adds Klaus Aron, who works in the Eugendorf police station (Flachgau).
“But we also have basic medical training and can ensure the care of police officers in dangerous situations. It’s all about all sorts of injuries – if you’re on a regular patrol duty, anything can happen, from a traffic accident to a collapse. Even at major events, anything can happen – from sprains to broken bones to gunshot or stab wounds, ”explains Aron.
“Are independent and also technically independent”
Technically, the paramedics are independent and act independently. Salzburg also has its own, ultra-modern police ambulance, the high-roof ambulance.
