Parcel bomb alarm in front of the Salzburg-Gnigl police station: suspect confesses
A package in the entrance area of the Salzburg-Gnigl police station triggered a bomb alarm on New Year’s Day. A suspicious broadcast was found around 3 p.m., the Salzburg police confirmed on Sunday a report by ORF Salzburg. A 49-year-old who is said to have deposited the package there was investigated. The deliveries only include chocolates, porcelain coasters and napkin rings.
A police officer discovered the said broadcast immediately in front of the Gnigl police station. There was no delivery address on the package. Only “please open here” and the words “Destroy 01.01.2022” are written on it. As a result, the danger area was cordoned off during the inspection and the offices were cleared, the police informed. An explosives expert from the executive calls on colleagues from the demining service in Vienna.
It turned out that the delivery did not contain any explosives or pyrotechnics, so the police continued. The suspect was questioned on Sunday. The Salzburg man admitted to having put the package down before the inspection. For the time being, he kept silent about why he had done this.
