More expensive lighting and gas. South Moravians pay hundreds of extra crowns a month
Every month, a family from the south of Moravia, who lives in an apartment and has electricity for normal consumption, has been paying about fifty crowns more than before. Households with higher consumption, ie lighting and water heating, will pay even more. “I will pay about three hundred crowns a month,” said E.On company spokesman Roman Šperňák. People using gas will reach deeper into their pockets from next year.
According to economist Lukáš Kovanda, energy companies will rise in price by tens of percent on average. Prices will be offered by the supplier. “The largest electricity supplier in the Czech Republic, CEZ, has risen in price by a third since January. Gas suppliers are raising prices by an average of around twenty percent, it may be higher, “he outlined.

People who only cook on gas, for example, will pay forty crowns a month more at Innoga than before. In the case of water heating and heating, a person pays 180 crowns a month in the apartment, the family in a smaller house will increase the costs by 270 crowns. “However, this change does not affect our customers, because they have fixed prices, which continue to apply,” said Innogy spokesman Pavel Grochál.
In 2022, South Moravia pays for electricity and gas.
Jan Včelouch from Moravský Žižkov in the Břeclav region is still bothered by the prices of materials rather than energy during the construction of the house. But he remains skeptical about the future. “For a family that has a mortgage, for example, a woman is on maternity leave with a child, it certainly won’t add a smile to her face,” said the young man. In the future, he wants to use natural resources in the house as much as possible, such as a photovoltaic power plant.
Economist Kovanda expects energy prices to rise in the years to come. The development of the wholesale price will also depend. “Unfortunately, it is still high. Before Christmas, they were at an astronomical level of up to 190 euros per megawatt-hour, now there are around hundreds. At the same time, however, it is still five times more expensive than its usual level, “said the economist.

According to Kovanda, such a significant increase in price must sooner or later be reflected in the final amounts. “If wholesale prices do not fall, which does not look like yet, we would see another significant increase in electricity and gas prices in 2023,” he said.
According to the company’s representatives, the current high amounts on the stock exchanges will only be partially reflected in the price lists of E.On clients. On average, standard electricity price lists will increase by seventeen percent from January and for gas by sixteen percent of the total prices that customers pay for energy.
Kovanda also expects the end of other energy companies. “Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if five other smaller suppliers went bankrupt in January or February,” he said.
