The Stëmm vu der Strooss sees an increase in poverty every day in its social restaurants in Hollerich and Esch. The association helping the most deprived is launching a new poster against social and professional exclusion.
Increased poverty in Luxembourg, deplores the Stëmm vu der Strooss, with supporting figures. Over the first eleven months of 2021, 87,560 meals were served in its two social restaurants in Hollerich and Esch-sur-Alzette, against 54,819 in 2015, an increase of 60% over the last six years. This represents an average of 376 meals per day in 2021 against 235 in 2015. Analyzing the figures of the Esch restaurant, the Stëmm notes that the progress is even more obvious since, despite the sanitary restrictions, 29,458 meals were prepared there. against 17,281 in 2015. An increase of around 70%. The average daily meals increased from 74 in 2015 to 126 in 2021, also a more than 70%. Regarding the beneficiaries in the two social restaurants, they went from 3,307 people in 2015 to 3,923 in 2021 (+ 19%).
Continuing its efforts to raise awareness of the problems linked to social exclusion and with a view to creating new jobs aimed at people far removed from the labor market, the Stëmm plans to open 50 new positions by next September, with the finalization of the Caddy2 reintegration workshop in Sanem. A poster was published to warn of the dire situation of the homeless in the face of the pandemic.
