Portugal recorded on the first day of the year, over 11,080 cases of infection and 14 deaths from covid-19. According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released this Sunday, the total number of kills thus rises to 18,990 and the total number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic is 1,424,016.
On Thursday, Portugal recorded the maximum number of biological infections since the beginning of the pandemic, reaching more than 30,000 cases of infection.
The status report indicates that there are now 1081 patients with covid-19 in hospitals, 58 more than in the previous update. In intensive care there are six more patients, a total of 148.
There are a further 3967 patients recovered, out of a total of 1,201,704 recoveries since the start of the pandemic. There are over 7,099 active cases, which means that 203,322 Portuguese people are still dealing with the disease. Most of the new cases were registered in Lisbon and Tagus Valley (6111 new infections or 55.1%) and then no North (2998 new cases or 27%).
