In the last 20 years, Slovak commentators will hardly remember a year that was full of events, sharp reversals and dramas than last year.
We survived the six months of 2021 in a depressing pandemic with lockdowns that interfered unprecedentedly in our personal, civic, or spiritual lives and escalated social polarization.
The world has not stopped, on the contrary.
All March we watched the fall of the government, which did not come, at the same time the police arrested the director of the secret service, who was released a few months later by the Attorney General, and in the meantime an unprecedented meeting took place at the SIS headquarters. A war broke out between the General and Special Prosecutor’s Offices, one unit detained elite NAKA investigators, another carried out three-month interrogations and interviews with the three-prime prime minister and his three-time interior minister with lawyers.
During the year, we provided at least one commentary each working day in which we addressed these and many other topics. We were right in our predictions of future developments, either because of a mistake in our judgment or for the simple reason that what followed exceeded our imagination to date.
Although we are united by common values in the Attitude, we are not a one-color, but a free medium in which the opinions of our commentators on a certain topic are. Last time, we had an open controversy about the mandatory vaccination of seniors and we look forward to such intra-editorial discussions in the new year as well.
Today we bring you a selection of 10 comments, analyzes and essays that are more timeless and therefore are up to date at the beginning of the new year.
On behalf of the Postoja editorial staff, I wish you and Slovakia a better and calmer year.
