Waltraud Langer starts as Country Director
Waltraud Langer from the designated ORF General Director Roland Weißmann in this role for ORF Salzburg was appointed by the ORF Board of Trustees on September 16, 2021. She comes from Mittersill (Pinzgau). You are pleased that your many years of activity as senior ORF editor will be honored with this appointment, that is, the Pinzgauerin.

From the sum total of my extensive experience as an independent journalist and manager, I want to make the best for Salzburg – specifically more information, more regional TV channels, more digital offers and more contact with the audience. Politics and economics as focal points
Born in Salzburg, she studied economics and worked for the radio at ORF-Funkhaus Wien in the domestic politics and business editorial department. From 1992 to 1994 – during the EU accession negotiations – she reported as an ORF foreign correspondent from Brussels.
After her return to Vienna, as a member of the business editorial team, she designed TV reports for “Zeit im Bild (ZIB)” and the business magazine “Euro Austria” with a focus on the European Union and monetary union.
Prominent functions
From 2000, Langer worked as a TV presenter and designer of the stock exchange news in the “ZIB” at 1 pm. In 2001 she was appointed head of the economic department in “ZIB 1”, and in June 2002 for all “ZIB” issues. Since 2003 she has added to the pool of journalists at the “press hour”, and since May 2005 she has also moderated the discussion program “Frankly Said”.
Multiple awards
In 2007 Waltraud Langer was appointed Head of Information for ORF 1, and since July 2010 she has been in charge of the ORF TV magazine department. She wrote several books and has received several awards – including the Horst Knapp Prize, the René Marcic Prize and as the best business journalist of 2006.
Governor welcomes decision

“I definitely want to expand the information area – on radio, television and the Internet. There are many ideas for regional topics that I want to focus on throughout Austria. I would like to increase the relevance of Salzburg in Austria and be a state director with heart and brain, ”says Langer.
