Russia expands restrictions on timber export – Economy and business
MOSCOW, January 2. / TASS /. In Russia, increased export rates for some types of sawn timber have come into force, which may restrict the export of unprocessed timber under the guise of sawn timber.
Previously increased export rates for certain types of timber with a moisture content of 22% and a thickness and width of 10 cm.
For coniferous woods, the rate is 200 € per 1 cubic meter. m, for valuable hardwood – from 250 € to 370 € per 1 cubic meter. m, reminded the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Previously, the rate for such timber for softwood and oak was 10%, but not less than € 13 and € 15 per cubic meter, respectively, for beech and ash – also 10%, but not less than € 50 per cubic meter.
“This is done to increase the volume of products with high added value, as well as to prevent the flow of some commodity groups to others,” the ministry said. The duties will apply only to the borders of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Since January 1, the export of unprocessed softwood and valuable hardwood (oak, beech, ash) is carried out only through two railway checkpoints (Lyutta – on the border with Finland, Hasan – on the border with the DPRK). This will allow to preserve in Russia up to 6 million cubic meters of softwood, which will be processed by domestic enterprises, which influenced the increase in the quality of products in the domestic market and the corresponding decline in prices, said earlier Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov.
