Russia and China are preparing a bilateral intergovernmental agreement with legal obligations to create a lunar station, it is planned to sign in 2022. It is reported by Interfax, referring to “Roskosmos”.
The corporation said that work is now underway to create a regulatory framework for the project. In March 2021, an intergovernmental memorandum of understanding was signed on cooperation in the field of an international scientific lunar station.
The project provides for the construction on the surface and in orbit around the Moon of a complex of experimental research facilities for a wide range of scientific works, Roscosmos by 2035. Russia and China on June 16 presented a roadmap for the construction of a joint lunar base. Construction of the station will begin in 2026. The station will include two orbital and eight lunar modules.
Roscosmos also announced that, together with the Chinese Space Administration, a list of relevant mutually beneficial projects will be developed, which will be included in the new cooperation program for 2023-2027.
