Jerónimo de Sousa defends the need for Portugal to fight for a policy of peace
The secretary general of the PCP defends this Saturday the need for Portugal to fight for a “policy of peace, friendship and cooperation” with all peoples in the world, criticizing the practices of the United States (USA) and NATO in terms of the rights of nations .
In his New Year message, Jerónimo de Sousa begins by stating that peace is “a fundamental right” and “a condition to guarantee respect and the full exercise of rights, economic development, social progress, sovereignty”.
The PCP leader refers to “legitimate the indignation at wars of aggression, the imposition of sanctions and economic blockades, such as injustices and social inequalities, which deny millions of human beings rights, practices to which the US and NATO [Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte] run continuously “.
Therefore, there is a need for “Portugal in April, democratic, sober, independent, to carry out and strive for a policy of peace, friendship and cooperation with all the peoples of the world”.
Jerónimo de Sousa adds that he has “deep confidence” that, through the determination of all “who aspire and in some way intervene for a better world”, “a future of peace, sovereignty, justice and social progress for the people will be achieved”. Portuguese, for all the peoples of the world”.
The head of the PCP list to the January legislatives by the Lisbon circle also complements that Portugal should not be subordinate and contribute to a policy that disrespects the sovereignty and rights of other peoples.
“In its international relations, including within the scope of the European Union, Portugal must not only affirm and ensure respect for its sober nationality, but must also respect the right of each people to soberly decide their path”, he stresses.
