Florence, taxi driver attacked in the night: damaged car and frightened passengers
“I had decided to work the night shift to earn a little more, in this long period of difficulty. As it went, I would have done better to stay at home … ». It is a bitter irony, that of Fabrizio, a taxi driver from Turin – but who had settled in Florence for four years – who last night had his car damaged in via Ghibellina: “It was around 4 – he says – and I had recently loaded three customers in via degli Strozzi. Arrived in via Ghibellina, at the intersection with via delle Seggiole, I noticed a fight between North Africans and black people. ‘ In the video of the dash cam, mounted on the vehicle, an individual can be seen approaching the car and hitting it with a bottle: «The hood needs to be changed. They were all drunk. The customers on board were scared and told me they had never seen such a thing. In fact, in eighteen years of working in Turin, even at night, I too had never found myself in such a situation ». Fabrizio would also have stopped for a moment: «I wanted to get off, but then reason prevailed. I could risk being attacked ». Since he is in Florence, this is the first episode of violence in which Fabrizio is involved: “But in July 2020 my taxi driver, too, experienced something similar in via Palazzuolo: it was broad daylight and a citizen began to marry in kicks and punches, for no reason, his self. Let’s say that I was jealous and that I wanted to equalize: now we are one by one », Fabrizio tries to joke. Fabrizio will present a regular complaint on the same day. On the episode, the municipal councilor of Fratelli d’Italia Alessandro Draghi intervened: «It is important to protect night workers and their safety. A taxi driver cannot go out in the evening to collect those extra 50 euros and instead find himself paying damages for 200-300 euros ».
