Balance of the Zurich canton police on New Year’s Eve

Shortly after 6 p.m. the message was received that a kindergarten pavilion was on fire in Langnau am Albis. The fire brigade was able to put out the fire. Property damage of several hundred thousand francs occurred to the building.
Around 11.30 p.m. it was reported that an attic of a single-family house was burning in Erlenbach. The residents could leave the house. Three people received medical treatment with suspected smoke inhalation. Despite the large-scale deployment of the Erlenbach fire brigade and the professional and militia fire brigade from Schutz & Rettung Zürich, property damage of several hundred thousand francs occurred to the building.
In both cases, the cause of the fire is still unclear and is being investigated by the fire investigation service of the Zurich cantonal police.
Over the course of the night, around two dozen reports of minor fires were received in the canton of Zurich. These could most often be extinguished by the limited fire brigades or by private individuals at short notice. The Zurich police are deployed around 50 times because fireworks have been let off against facades or means of transport or in mailboxes.
Shortly after midnight, a person was slightly injured in Fehraltorf who was shot at with a firework. A 71-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were arrested in connection with this. The Zurich canton police have started the investigation.
Zurich main station
Because of the high number of people expected in Zurich city center, the Zurich canton police were deployed at Zurich main station with an increased presence, supported by forces from the transport police, Securitrans and Securitas. During the night there were two injuries with stabbing weapons. Shortly before 11.30 p.m., a 27-year-old man was injured in the face by a stranger. Around three o’clock, a stranger stabbed a 19-year-old man in the leg and seriously injured him. A canton police officer was able to stop the bleeding with a ligating system. The last one was transported to a hospital in an ambulance. The canton police have started investigations in both cases.
At around 1.30 a.m., members of the Zurich canton police observed a man immorally touching a woman. The 18-year-old Afghan was held and taken to the police station.
Several people have been arrested for violating the Aliens and Integration Act (AIG). Around 25 people were turned away for being drunk or for harassing other people.
The Security Director of the Canton of Zurich, Government Councilor Mario Fehr personally got a picture of the work of the front officials on New Year’s Eve.
