Suspicious streak of luck convicts lottery thief in Salzburg
A supermarket employee bought lottery tickets worth around 40,000 euros in the Hallein district from the beginning of October to the beginning of December without paying them. The profits from this amount to 12,000 euros, 5,000 euros of which the 22-year-old has already redeemed. It was discovered by an attentive tobacconist who was suspicious of the woman’s lucky streak, the police reported.
According to the police, the 22-year-old regularly printed out lottery tickets with high stakes on the vending machine portal of the business. She threw away the receipts that she should have swiped over the scanner and paid for. She cashed the winnings in tobacconists in the area and sometimes spent the money again on various purchases.
A tobacconist stated that the woman redeemed very often and reported this to the lottery company. This got the investigation going. Video recordings in the supermarket corroborated the suspicion against the Tennengau resident, 39 lottery tickets with prizes, probably clothes and toys bought with the money and 950 euros in cash were seized in her apartment and car. The 22-year-old confesses. She was released without notice. In addition to being reported for breach of trust, there is an administrative fine because she has regularly driven to work in the last few months, even though she does not have a valid driver’s license.
