Pedro Pichardo and Patrícia Mamona elected athletes of the year by the CNID | Portugal
The Olympic triple jump champion Pedro Pichardo and the ‘runner’ of the same discipline in Tokyo 2020 Patrícia Mamona were elected athletes of the year 2021 by the CNID – Association of Sport Journalists, this Friday.
The distinction of the two triple jump athletes celebrates the good performance in Tokyo 2020, in addition to the rest of the season, with Pichardo and Mamona succeeding two other sport colleagues, in the case of cyclists Maria Martins and João Almeida, winners in 2020.
ONE election was decided by the jury of the CNID, which brings together journalists and sports personalities, such as the president of the Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP).
Before Tokyo 2020, a pair also ‘shine’ in Torun, Poland, a city where both were crowned European indoor champions.
Among other athletes evaluated by the CNID, weight thrower Auriol Dongmo collected 19 votes, far from the 45 for the winner, and judoka Telma Monteiro 16, taking third place.
In men’s, canoeist Fernando Pimenta, who also won medals in Tokyo 2020, with a bronze, was in second place, with 18 votes, against 40 for Pichardo, and futsal player Ricardinho was third, with 14 choices.
Below the podium, Teresa Portela (canoeing) was fourth and Yolanda Sequeira (surf) fifth, in women’s, and João Almeida was fourth and Pedro Gonçalves (soccer) in fifth, in men’s.
