More than 70 thousand people vaccinated against the flu and covid-19 in mainland Portugal
More than 70 thousand people were vaccinated this Friday against the flu and covid-19, almost 52 thousand with a booster dose, also registering the vaccination of 51 children aged between 5 and 11 years.
According to the most recent data from the daily report of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) on vaccination against covid-19 and the flu, in mainland Portugal, 70,045 people were vaccinated today.
Among those vaccinated, 51,618 received a booster dose of covid-19 vaccine, while another 4,350 completed the primary vaccination and 14,026 were inoculated with the flu vaccine.
During the day, 51 children aged between 5 and 11 years were also vaccinated.
Among the total number of people who have already taken the booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine, data from the DGS revealed that 88% of people aged 80 and over have already had the booster, an identical percentage (87%) among people with aged between 70 and 79 years.
The low percentage in the age group 60 to 69 years, in which 62% of the total people have already taken the booster dose, lower even more in the age group 50-59 years, where the percentage is only 26% of the total.
In the accumulated total, 8,695,365 people have a complete covid-19 vaccination, 2,869,878 have received a booster dose, and 2,418,828 are vaccinated against a flu.
Among children, 95,714 started vaccination with at least one dose.
Vaccination data are calculated daily, between 00:00 and 23:59, relative to the day prior to the release of the report.
Covid-19 is a respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in several countries.
Covid-19 has caused 5,428,240 deaths worldwide since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest report by the Agence France-Presse (AFP).
In Portugal, since March 2020, 18,955 people have died and 1,389,646 cases of infection have been recorded, according to data from the DGS.
