Between magic, science and beliefs
As their journey progresses, the people of Toulouse will discover that the magic is timeless and universal. Witches from the Middle Ages to today, they will oscillate between history, science and culture in an accessible way.
“Magies-Sorcelleries is not only an opportunity to question the close relationship that magic maintains with the sciences, in particular natural sciences, but also to question our own disposition to let ourselves be deluded», Specifies Francis Duranthon, director of the Toulouse Museum.
Magics still popular today
Minerals, amulets, rituals, divinatory objects, spells… The exhibition will lift the veil on what some believe to be legends. Skepticism can quickly give way to fascination. What’s more, magics are not ready to go away and on the contrary reinvent themselves between shamanism, astrology and clairvoyance.
In addition, witchcraft is more than popular in the movies, Harry potter is the most convincing example. She is also, in a way, at the heart of the struggles. “The feminist, ecological, ecofeminist or anarchist movements recover the figure of the witch or the witch to criticize the standards of patriarchy and capitalism”, indicates the press release from the Museum.
