Covid-19. 22 children up to nine years old hospitalized in Portugal, two in ICU
The General Directorate of Health (DGS) revealed, this Friday, the age of the people hospitalized due to covid-19. As Sunrise progressed in today’s edition, there is an increase in admissions for children aged 0-9.
According to the data, referring to December 29, when 1,034 people were hospitalized, 20 children under the age of 10 – who have not yet been vaccinated – were hospitalized in the wards of Portuguese hospitals and two in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
The values translate into a significant increase compared to last week. On December 22, there were six children between 0 and 9 years old in the ward and none in the ICU.
Of the 1,034 hospitalized by covid-19 registered on December 29, 890 were in the infirmary and 144 in the ICU. Of the total ward, 271 are over 80 years old, 227 are aged between 70 and 79, 142 between 60 and 69, 99 between 50 and 59, 59 between 40 and 49, 36 between 30 and 39, 31 between 20 and 29, five between 10 and 19 and, as mentioned above, 20 between 0 and nine.

A week earlier, on December 22, there were 893 hospitalized: 745 in the ward and 148 in the ICU. 222 people aged over 80 were hospitalized in the ward, 201 between 70 and 79, 147 between 60 and 69, 82 between 50 and 59, 52 between 40 and 49, 19 between 30 and 39, 10 between 20 and 29, six between 10 and 19 and six between 0 and 9 years.
In the ICU there were seven people over 80 years old, 37 between 70 and 79, 54 between 60 and 69, 31 between 50 and 59, 13 between 40 and 49, two between 30 and 39 and four between 20 and 29 years old.
