A very rare sight: the Canigou was visible Thursday evening from the heights of Marseille
It’s hard to believe that you can observe the Canigou from the Phocaean city, located some 260 km as the crow flies. Yet this is what happened once again on Thursday evening, from the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
No, it is not a mirage, or even a supernatural phenomenon. And the vision is nothing extraordinary even if some Catalans do not hesitate to describe their mountain as magic. Still, the observation of Canigou from the region near Marseille always arouses curiosity and enthusiasm.
Thus, at certain dates of the year, and if the weather conditions allow it, the peak of Canigou, the Sun and the observation point are aligned and the atmospheric refraction which bends the light makes it possible to see this silhouette. A phenomenon that was indeed repeated Thursday evening and that Météo France relayed on its Twitter account. Thanks to a new snapshot shared by @infoclimat, we can once again admire this sublime spectacle.
It is at sunset that the magic appears at certain times of the year. When the sun sets exactly behind the summit located at 2785 meters, an intense backlight that allows you to see the mountain range diluted in the atmosphere.
