The Minister of Higher Education Frédérique Vidal affirmed on Wednesday that the students do well their face-to-face exams. This despite a strong epidemic recovery, especially among young people. In Lyon, the faculties define the procedure to follow for positive cases unable to attend the tests.
Despite the 5th wave of covid-19 and a high incidence rate among young people, Lyon students will take their partial and face-to-face exams in January 2022. This was announced on Wednesday, December 29, the Minister of ‘Higher education Frédérique Vidal. It was “of a majority demand“Desired by the students, she explained to the microphone of France Info. At the same time, classes will resume in the same way as in the first semester, in physics when possible or remotely when the situation requires it.
Go face-to-face as long as possible
Objective: not to return to the difficulties highlighted during this same period last year, in particular “in terms of connection “, when the assessments – in most cases – had to be done remotely. The minister also mentioned the vaccination rate among the youngest, which stands at 92% nationally. In the Rhône region, according to data as of December 28, 75.6% of 18-24 year olds have completed their vaccination course. For 25-29 year olds, this rate rises to 89.4%.
“Substitution” tests in the universities of Lyon
In a circular dated December 29, the ministry set out the plan for students in solitary confinement. Replacement tests will be offered to them if they are unable to attend one or more tests. Only a few days before the start of the school year, the message has been received by the faculties of Lyon. “We will ensure the strict application of this circular. A student declared positive may, while respecting equal opportunities, take his tests during another session organized a few weeks after the exams and once this pupil has recovered.“, explained the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3. As regards contact cases, the circular relies on decisions that can be taken later.
Depending on the evolution of the situation, the universities have the possibility of adapting the evaluation methods if necessary. A studied opportunity “from October“affirms the Lumière University in Lyon 2 where”methods of checking knowledge are already planned in case it will be necessary to go remotely“.
No exam pass
Students are also exempt from additional constraints relating to the health or vaccination pass for taking their exams. Indeed, the Secretary of State in charge of Youth and Engagement, Sarah El Haïry, confirmed on Cnews “that you will not need a pass for the exams“.”Keep schools open for equal opportunitiess “and make sure that”this virus does not create greater inequalities“, she added.
