Salzburg: 135 children vaccinated by the fire brigade – action should be repeated
Great popularity among children. Omicron variant continues to spread. Meanwhile, the significantly more infectious Omicron variant is on the rise.
135 children were vaccinated against the corona virus on Thursday as part of a special campaign at the professional fire department. Fire director Reinhold Ortler personally signed “bravery certificates”. Another action is planned for January 8th in the main fire station in Jägermüllerstraße in Salzburg-Maxglan.
The country is still a long way from the targeted vaccination rate of over 80 percent – it is currently 67.4 percent. Vaccination coordinator Rainer Pusch reacted “as a doctor with concern” to the fact that the number had even fallen in the past few weeks (vaccination certificates lose their validity if they are not refreshed in time, note). Until the end of the holiday, there are around 100 opportunities to get vaccinated without registering. There are also hundreds of ways to get an appointment at salzburg-impft.at and by phone on health number 1450.
Meanwhile, the significantly more infectious Omicron variant is on the rise. According to the country, around 40 percent of new infections are due to the mutant cause. Health officials reported 213 new infections on Thursday. The seven-day incidence is 188 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. 47 corona patients are in the hospital, 18 of them in an intensive care unit.
