Niko Kovac is no longer the coach of AS Monaco
Sixth in Ligue 1 before attacking the second part of the season, Monaco decided to part ways with their coach Niko Kovac. He arrived in July 2020.
It is a decision that has matured in the minds of Monegasque leaders for several weeks. And which is now irrevocable. AS Monaco have decided to part ways with coach Niko Kovac (50). According to our information, the Principality’s club informed the Croatian technician on Thursday evening of this desire to change coach.
In recent months, Niko Kovac has moved away from some important members of his dressing room like his captain Wissam Ben Yedder. Its management and its choices, not always understood by its men, have weakened it. Just like the lack of ambition of his team, which has never yet entered the top 5 of Ligue 1 this season and which did not shine against the big teams (defeats against Marseille, Lyon, Paris, draws against Nice and Lille).
A sluggish start to the season
The Monegasque leaders also still have in mind the failed first half this summer during the Champions League play-off against Shakhtar Donetsk, a crucial meeting. While the club has kept all the major players in its squad this summer to support its ambitions and ride on the dynamics of last season, the start of the season has been sluggish. The difficult adaptation of the rookies and the not very obvious progression of players like Fofana and Caio Henrique compared to the previous year took place in this decision.
Previously passed by the Croatian selection, Eintracht Frankfurt and especially Bayern Munich, Niko Kovac arrived in the Principality in July 2020 to take over from Robert Moreno, who had been appointed to him in December 2019 after the ouster of Leonardo Jardim. Monaco is currently 6th in Ligue 1 after 19 days, four points off the podium. The Rocher club also qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League and the round of 16 of the Coupe de France.
