Demonstrations – Hanover – Corona demos are getting more traffic: Federal police requested – politics
Hanover (dpa / lni) – According to the police, the protests against the corona protective measures are attracting more and more people in Lower Saxony. The behavior of the demonstrators is increasingly uncooperative, similar to State Police President Axel Brockmann on Thursday. With a view to further demonstrations, he therefore announced a tougher crackdown on the part of the police in order to enforce requirements such as the mask requirement and to anticipate violations. For this, the country has also requested and promised the support of the federal police for next Monday.
According to Brockmann, around 6,000 participants across the country came together for 48 gatherings against the corona measures on December 13. Two weeks later, with around 13,000 participants at 117 meetings, there were already more than twice as many. In addition, of the 117 meetings, only 14 were required to be registered in advance.
“An attempt is being made to overturn the assembly law by trickery. We will not allow that,” said Brockmann. The police chief described the field of participants at the demos as mixed and lacking a clear political-ideological orientation.
Interior Minister Boris Pistorius also announced that the police would intervene in the event of violations. “Just like the vast majority of the population, I have absolutely no understanding of this form of protest,” the SPD politicians shared.
