Corona numbers in Salzburg are rising again

283 Omikron cases in Salzburg
As of today (8:30 a.m.) there were a total of 283 confirmed Omikron cases in the state. This number was still 131 on Monday. “The Omikron variant is gaining in importance and will lead to an intensification of the upward trend in the coming days. The proportion of Omikron cases in new infections can already be estimated at around 40 percent. We will only be able to say more precisely in a few days. In any case, one thing is clear: the trend is increasing, ”says Filipp. Contact tracing runs seven days a week and is reinforced again in suspected Omikron cases.
Incidence highest in Lungau
The seven-day incidence in Lungau is currently highest in Salzburg and has more than doubled in the last four days to 432.4. Behind is the Tennengau with 226.4. The infection rate is currently lowest in Pinzgau with 136.1. The seven-day incidence in Austria is currently 178.8, in Salzburg it is slightly higher at 187.8.
Ten communities “Corona-free”
Currently only ten out of 119 municipalities in Salzburg are “Corona-free”. The seven-day incidence exceeds 250 in 28 municipalities and is over 500 in six municipalities.

47 corona patients in hospitals
“In the hospitals, deaths continue to decline due to the long downward trend in new infections,” said Filipp. The number of inpatient cases has now risen to 47, 18 of which require intensive medical care. Filipp: “As of yesterday, only six percent of intensive care patients were fully immunized. It clearly shows how effective the vaccination protects against a serious course of the disease. ”The average age of intensive care patients is 60 years.
