The 55th World Day of Peace is celebrated on 1 January, established by Paul VI in 1968 to invite all men of good will to dedicate the first day of the year to peace to affirm the desire that the whole year be dominated by search for peace.
Pope Francis in his message for the day underlines how peace is a demanding journey and today still far from its final goal, to reach which it invites us to equip ourselves with three essential tools. The first is the dialogue between generations, as a prerequisite for the realization of shared projects. dialogue it means listening, discussing, agreeing and walking together. Young people need the existential, wisdom and spiritual experience of the elderly. The elderly of the support, affection, creativity and dynamism of young people. Then there is the instrument of education, which makes the person more free and responsible and which is the foundation of a cohesive, civil society capable of generating hope, wealth and progress. Finally, the tool of the work which is an expression of oneself and one’s gifts, but also commitment, effort, collaboration with others, a place where one learns to make one’s contribution for a more livable and beautiful world. Pope Francis emphasizes that peace, in addition to being a gift from on high, it is the result of a shared commitment where there is an architecture of peace, responsibility of the various institutions of society, but also a craftsmanship of peace, which involves each individual person.
HE Mons.Andrea Turazzi, to signify the common commitment to building peace, will deliver the Pope’s Message to the representatives of the institutions during the solemn celebrations scheduled for next January 1st:
