Travelers urged to avoid Sweden, more European destinations in the middle of covid
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges travelers to skip several new European destinations due to “very high” levels of covid-19.
“Avoid traveling to Sweden”, the public health authority wrote in one Health message for travel This week.
Sweden agreed Malta and Moldova as level 4 countries on Monday, the CDC’s highest covid ranking. The US State Department issued in parallel Travel advice for all three countries and also added Suriname to its level 4 list.
Sweden has had 95,712 new coronavirus cases in the past month, according to Johns Hopkins University data. In comparison, the United States reported 4.9 million cases during the same period.

“If you have to travel to Sweden, make sure you are fully vaccinated,” said the CDC, which is in line with Sweden’s policy.
Sweden has prohibited unnecessary travel from most countries outside the European Union and the European Economic Area until 31 January. There is some exceptions, including for vaccinated travelers from the United States, who can come in with negative results from a covid test taken within 48 hours of their journey.
