Toulouse. Stéphane Sapinart: “We cannot be satisfied”
While the last meeting of the year, initially scheduled for tonight against Plessis-Robinson was reported due to several cases of Covid in the ranks of Ile-de-France, the Spacer’s coach confided in the first part of the season of the his.
Stéphane, a word first of all about these postponed matches and this air of déjà vu?
We relive those moments when we prepare to give the maximum but without being sure to be able to play and without being sure of the unfolding of the days that follow. We all try to protect ourselves as much as possible but we can clearly see that a lot of teams and a lot of sports are affected. We have to adapt. We have therefore rescheduled the week by adding training and focusing on the next match, next Tuesday in Tourcoing, hoping that we will be able to play.
This match against Plessis-Robinson should have been the first of the return phase. What is your assessment of the first part of the season ended with four wins and nine losses?
We cannot be satisfied. It does not meet our expectations. We had a lot of opportunities to win sets that we let slip. We were not far from filling up on several meetings where we did not finally take a single point. I am especially thinking of the home matches against Cambrai (1-3), Nantes (1-3) or Paris (1-3) which really stuck in my throat. On a lack of realism. It’s a mental problem because if you put yourself in a position to take three points, then you are doing good things. We will have to learn to conclude.
And how do you get there?
We are working on several tracks, especially on outside help with mental preparation in order to raise our level of ability to manage these important moments.
Despite your start to the season, you are only three points behind seventh …
The middle of the table moves away (the 5th is 10 points, Editor’s note), it stretches, but the end of the play-off is still achievable. There are thirteen games to go, thirty-nine points at stake, so a lot to do. We have to be realistic: we are not very well placed, however, we are still in progress. We have to work to achieve our goal.
A final word on Bruno Sola’s departure from the club presidency: how did you experience this announcement?
It’s a personal decision. I have no comment to make on it.
