The population increased slightly in Lyon and throughout the Region
The 2019 census figures have just been published by INSEE.
As a result, the population is still increasing in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. As of January 1, the designated area 8,042,936 inhabitants against the 7,775,795 in 2013.
More locally, the Rhône department remains the most populous in the Region with more than 1.8 million inhabitants (+ 100,000 compared to 2013). It is followed by Isère, 1,271,166 (+ 50,000) and Puy-de-Dôme, 662,152.
Note that the sole Metropolis of Lyon, here in the Rhône department, now has a population of 1,411,571 against the 1.3 million in 2013. About 22,000 new inhabitants have moved to Lyon intramural. Its population is now 522,969.
In total, France is home to 65,096,768 people. This is 2 million more than 6 years ago. In the end, only the departments of Cantal and Allier lost inhabitants of the Region.
This counting carried out by INSEE will serve as a legal basis for the municipalities from January 1, 2022.
