Sweden’s defender Loof suspended a match
The International Ice Hockey Federation has suspended Sweden’s defender Leo Loof for a match for a check on the head of Slovakia’s defender Simon Nemec.
The incident occurred in the third period of Sweden’s 3-0 victory against Slovakia on Monday in Red Deer, Alta.
As Nemec approached the Swedish blue line, Loof hit the Slovak defender while raising his arms to Nemec’s head. Nemec hit the boards and fell to the ice as a result of the hit.
The IIHF’s disciplinary panel said that Loof did not show any consideration for the puck when he delivered the hit and exposed Nemec to negligent danger.
Sweden would face the United States on Wednesday.
