Vaccination quota: half of all Salzburg students are protected against corona
More than half of the around 605,000 students in the 2021/22 school year aged twelve and over had upright vaccination against Covid-19 (55 percent) as of November 30th. The proportion of students is higher at 86 percent and is significantly higher than the vaccination rate for the general population of the same age. Statistics Austria determined this on behalf of the Ministry of Education. The figures were presented at a press conference on Tuesday.
Salzburg lags behind the nationwide quotation
Schoolchildren who had their main residence in Burgenland on October 1st had the highest vaccination rate at around 65 percent, in Lower Austria (61 percent) and Vienna (59 percent). Well below the Austrian average of 55 percent, the vaccination rates for schoolchildren with main residence in Salzburg (50 percent), Carinthia (46 percent) and Upper Austria (45 percent) die. There are similar regional differences among the students.
Upper level with a higher vaccination rate
The vaccination rate of the schoolchildren does not differ from that of the schoolchildren and has risen recently, reported Tobias Thomas, General Director of Statistics Austria. The vaccination rate is 64 percent higher in upper secondary level than in lower secondary level (37 percent). Lower secondary level in the lower level of general secondary schools (AHS, 49 percent) has a significantly higher vaccination rate than middle schools (30 percent). Within the upper secondary level, pupils of the AHS upper level show the highest vaccination rate with 72 percent, filled by vocational higher schools (66 percent) and vocational schools (62 percent). The lowest proportion can be found in upper secondary level with a rate of 52 percent in vocational middle schools (including polytechnic schools).
As of the end of November 2021, Statistics Austria estimates that 86 percent of the approximately 395,000 students in Austria had already been immunized. At the public universities the rate was 86 percent, with the medical universities achieving particularly high vaccination rates at 92 percent.
