Urban Wandering # 20 – Special Gardens of the Gear – Dijoncter.info

Sugar Mizzy December 28, 2021

The news seen by the streets of Dijon and its surroundings in recent months. On the program this time, a special garden edition of the Gear, full of love for nature and hatred for concrete mixers and their cops.

We have already had the opportunity to show graffiti or banners related to the Gardens of the Gear several times in this column, but such an abundance deserved a special edition.

The gardens were occupied on June 17, 2020 on the occasion of the world’s first day of action against re-intoxication. For several months, they allowed the inhabitants of this wasteland and the surrounding neighborhood to have a place of greenery, gardening and social life. The gardens have been threatened throughout their existence: trial, first eviction attempt in the summer of 2020, then a first phase of eviction on April 20, 2021. This last operation left only one house and one small portion of the land surrounded by a 2m high wall. A strong symbol of the destructive frenzy of concrete mixers … and a dream playground for rock art lovers.

The wall and the house were finally evicted almost 6 months ago, on July 20.

Classified vaguely chronologically, a small anthology of graffiti (and some banners) seen in the late gardens of the Gear.

Between October 2020 and March 2021, in Éclepens in Switzerland, an occupation took place on the site of a quarry project for the cement manufacturer Holcim. The ZAD de la Colline and the Gardens of the Gear were like two twin occupations, which marked the opposition to concrete “ mass-building weapon of capitalism “ and its destruction from the quarry to the building.

The relentlessness on the latter is obvious. It must be said that, not content to cover “his” city under a concrete screed, he is also president of the new Commission for the revival of housing construction. Created on 1uh June 2021 by the Prime Minister, the mission of this commission is composed in its title. It is made up of 7 elected municipal officials, 4 senators, 4 deputies and 17 people elected as “ qualified professionals »Who are none other than the promoters of real estate, Construction and the banks that provide their financing.

The latest in the spotlight: the now ex-commissioner Bruno De Bartolo, who led with these expulsions one of his last operations before his retirement. The latest in a long series of expulsions from squats and violence against struggles, which earned him a simple and straightforward:

Latest action to date on site: the installation of a banner on a construction crane during the VéloTerres, “ Joyful and colorful bike ride through the defended lands of Dijon “. While the concrete lobby and its herald François Rebsamen restructure their discourse around the notion of “ happy density », While the city continues to expand on agricultural land towards Ouges, Chevigny or Ahuy, and while threats against the Lentillères district resurface, this action reminds us that if the fight for the defense of the gardens of the Gear is over, she was just a step in the fight against concrete and her world !
