Matteo Cecchetti is the new coach of the San Marino Under 21 National Team. The San Marino coach, former deputy of Fabrizio Costantini and in the Biancazzurrini staff since 2018, will lead the Titans starting from the next qualifying matches for the European Championships in Georgia and Romania 2023.
His career as a technician has developed between the borders of San Marino, he has taken over the leadership of Virtus, Murata, Cosmos and especially Tre Fiori in recent seasons. With the Gialloblù he recently reached 100 benches, having had the merit of bringing a trophy that had been missing for several years to the club’s bulletin board: this is the case of the Titano Cup 2019, won in the final against Folgore. With Cecchetti on the bench, Tre Fiori experienced the thrill – to date unprecedented for a San Marino club – of passing the round in a continental competition. It was June 2018: the 3-0 against Bala Town mortgaged the arrival in the Second Round of Qualification of the Europa League.
From today, his career is tinged with white and blue: the new Under 21 coach will announce his staff in the new year, while the official debut on the Biancazzurrini bench is set for 24 March 2022 in Hungary, before two close matches and which will see San Marino host Latvia five days later. In June, the last qualifying commitments for the category European Championships, with the arrival of Poland at the San Marino Stadium (2 June 2021) and the unprecedented trip to Israel (7 June 2021).
