Prague – On Monday, 6850 cases of covid-19 occurred in the Czech Republic, which was the least on a weekday since October 29. Compared to the previous Monday, the number of infected people was one-fifth lower. It follows from the data on web Ministry of Health. On Monday, however, the number of people tested was still very low after the Christmas holidays. About 47,000 PCR tests and over 19,000 antigenic tests were performed, which was almost two-fifths less than a week ago. Compared to the previous week, it also fell by a third on Monday to 3,505, 687 in a difficult state.
The spread of covid-19 has been slowing for about a month. At the end of November, the daily numbers of new infections reached almost 28,000, which was the highest increase during the entire epidemic. The number of new cases in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, ie the so-called incidence number, is also falling. To date, it is declining from Monday’s 379 to 363. It has declined in all regions. It is still the highest with 433 cases in the Liberec Region and the lowest with 197 cases in the Karlovy Vary Region.
The number of people who ended up in hospital with covid-19 is also gradually decreasing for about three weeks. On Saturday, the number of hospitalized reached 3224, which was at least since November 7. During Sunday and Monday, the number of hospitalized increased by almost three hundred. However, such short-term fluctuations occur repeatedly. The numbers of people with covid-19 in hospitals, according to the ministry, have been declining regularly in recent weeks until Saturday, then rising slightly on Sundays and Mondays, but then began to decline again.
Despite the total number of cases recorded on Monday, the proportion of cases detected increased due to the low number of tests tested. For preventive and comprehensive tests, which make up the majority of tests performed, the share of positives rose from 3.51 percent in the previous Monday to 5.15 percent. The epidemiological indication, where people are tested for contact with the infected, for example, rose from 10.28 percent to 12.91 percent. The share of positives in the so-called diagnostic indication, when people with symptoms are already being tested, increased from 20.98 to 24.29 percent compared to the previous Monday.
During the entire epidemic in the Czech Republic since the beginning of last March, about 2.46 million cases of the disease were recorded and 35,911 people with covid-19 died. He has been vaccinated against covid-19 in the Czech Republic for a year now. Vaccination began last December 27 and approximately 15.3 million doses of the vaccine have been given since then. Over 6.6 million people were fully vaccinated. On Monday, after a reduction during the holidays, when only 18 people had to be vaccinated on December 25, the number of vaccinated people rose to more than 60,000. However, compared to the previous Monday, it was still 28 percent less.
