The Budapest Agglomeration Railway Strategy has been adopted

In the Hungarian Gazette published According to the government decision, the government will adopt the interdependent steps of the development of the unified suburban railway network within the strategy, in order to increase the capacity of each line and the utility needed to improve the service offered.
The number of customers using rail and HÉV transport in Budapest and the catchment area can be doubled overall.
In addition, the decision orders the publication of the strategy on a government website. the government will adopt an action plan to implement the strategy to improve the efficient operation of the railways, strengthen the functional link between the railways and the host environment, and develop services and operations for the period 2021-2040.
The government provides for the Minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Minister for Innovation and Technology to provide the necessary support for the implementation of the strategy and to submit a proposal to the government on a scheduled basis for the provision of domestic and EU funds.
It calls on the Minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Office, with the involvement of the Minister for Innovation and Technology and the Minister without Portfolio for the Management of National Assets, through BFK Budapest Development Center Nonprofit Zrt., MÁV Magyar Államvasutak Zrt. And NIF NemzetiInfrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. – monitor the implementation of the strategy and report to the government every two years.
The indicative action plan for the implementation of the Budapest Agglomeration Railway Strategy for the period 2021–2040 includes the expansion of the capacity of Kelenföld, the planning of missing railway stops and passenger traffic facilities at stations, the development of the internal facilities of Óbuda development of the Gubacsi bridge, long-term development of the Eastern and Western railway stations, implementation of the Budapest Liszt International Airport fixed-track connection.
They also provide for the modernization of the HÉV lines H5, H6, H7, the HÉV vehicle replacement program and the introduction of the HÉV lines H6 and H7 from Pesterzsébet and the Kvassay bridge to Kálvin tér.
