Sumatran orangutans have been breeding at the Prague Zoo for 60 years: the youngest is Kawi
Soňa comes from the wild just like a male Bimbo. They came to Prague as young, when they grew up, they found love in themselves. In 1971, they gave birth to the famous Kamu, the first orangutan who was born not only in Prague, but in the whole history of Czech zoos. Kama lived to be 41 and had two sons, Filip and Pagy, who moved to Bratislava as teenagers.
Pagy returned to Prague in 2015 and is Kawi’s father. He is next to his mother Mawar (who arrived from the Durrel Wildlife Park zoo on the island of Jersey in the English Channel) and his older sister Diri discovers the world. It is a genetically valuable successor to the line of orangutans that it circulates in its ancestral veins “Wild” blood, and also the fifth born in the Czech capital.
