deadlocked, the garbage collectors will continue the strike until the beginning of January
The conflict gets bogged down more and more. In the absence of an agreement with the Metropolis, the garbage collectors intend to continue their movement at least until early January. Monday, December 27, 2021, the spokesperson for the inter-union FO, CGT, FA-FPT, FSU, Solidaires Sud and Unsa, Benoît Fontanilles, announced that the strike rate was oscillating between 80 and 90%. In contrast, Vincent Terrail-Novès, vice-president of the Metropolis, communicated a rate of 50% of strikers.
The conflict began at the end of November, before becoming a strike lasts on December 16, 2021. The maturities of Toulouse Métropole protest, in particular, against the end of the “finished-gone”, which allows officers to return home once the tour is over. The unions have yet recorded the abandonment of the “finished party”, but ask in return a reduction in their number of working hours in the name of arduousness.

Negotiations stalled
Toulouse Métropole refuses the demands of the unions, but does not exclude to resume negotiations. “Everyone must get back to a table at the beginning of January, negotiations must resume,” announces Vincent Terrail-Novès, vice-president of the Metropolis in charge of waste.
To date, the point of tension relates to the days of subjugation. Unions demand a rate of 20%, or only 1,100 hours worked for 1,600 hours paid. Indeed, with the end of the “finished party”, the law requires collection agents to work 1607 hours per year. “In the name of the arduous nature of our profession, we are asking for a reduction in the number of hours worked by around 20% while keeping the same salary”, proclaims Benoît Fontanilles.
The community does not hear it that way: “We cannot accept such a demand, it would be unfair to other agents in the Metropolis. We have proposed to the garbage collectors a reduction in their number of hours worked. by 5%, which is 72 hours less“declares the vice-president of the Metropolis.
Garbage cans are overflowing
After more than a week of strike action, a large part of the trash cans are no longer collected during the holiday season and garbage accumulates on the sidewalks of the streets of Toulouse.
Negotiations have been interrupted since Tuesday, December 21, 2021, the date of the last meeting between the intersyndicale des garbage collectors and the representatives of Toulouse Métropole. This Tuesday morning, a gathering of garbage collectors was held in front of the town hall of Vincent Terrail-Novès, in Balma, north of Toulouse, still in hope to establish new negotiations.
