The new Corona variant Omikron should win a ride. From Monday to Tuesday, the number of new infections rose sharply again. Within 24 hours there were 2,416 new infections, the day before there were 1,550. However, even after the Christmas holidays, more tests were carried out in one day than the days before. More than 2.4 million tests were registered within 24 hours. Within a week it was 5.7 million.

This means that from Monday to Tuesday just under half of the tests for the last seven days were taken. 2,410,153 were rapid PCR and antigen tests. The main part – namely 1,958,724 were meaningful PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests was below average 0.1 percent. More than 157 million tests have been carried out since the start of the pandemic.

This means that most of the new infections are above the average of 2,080. The seven-day incidence decreased slightly to 163 cases per 100,000 population within a week. On Monday it was 164.2. The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Tyrol with 266.3. Dorte causes a positive case of a service employee in the Ischgl restaurant “Kitzloch”, which made the international headlines at the beginning of the corona pandemic, causing a stir. Fewer corona patients in hospitals

There was a decrease of 403 in the currently positive falls. On Tuesday, 28,422 people in Austria were suffering from a SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Almost 48,500 vaccinations on Monday in Austria

48,458 vaccinations were given on Monday. 70.4 percent of Austrians or 6,290,865 people now have valid vaccination protection. Of the vaccinations, 4,674 were first stitches yesterday. 14,742 vaccinations were second stings. Third stitches were used most frequently, namely 29,042 immunizations, that is 59.93 percent of all vaccinations carried out on Monday.

The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 75.6 percent. In Lower Austria 72.2 percent of the population have valid vaccination protection, in Styria 70.2 percent. After Vienna (69.7), Tyrol (69.3), Vorarlberg (67.5), Carinthia (67.1) and Salzburg (67.1), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 66 percent.

There have already been 1,268,519 confirmed corona cases in Austria since the start of the pandemic. 1,226,425 people have recovered from this.

In Salzburg, 101,846 (+88 compared to the last report on Monday, December 27) have so far tested positive for Covid-19. According to state statistics, the 7-day incidence as of December 28, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. is 167.1.

According to EMS, the number of actively infected people in the state is currently 1.615 (-172 compared to the last report on Monday, December 27). There are currently 50 Covid-19 patients in the hospital, 18 of them in the intensive care unit.
