Broadband: the elected officials of Paris-Saclay are not relieving the pressure

The deployment of fiber remains strewn with pitfalls at Paris-Saclay. The elected officials of the Paris-Saclay (Essonne) agglomeration community judge the guarantees by digital operators insufficiently during a progress meeting organized at the beginning of December. During this meeting, the professionals presented their measures to resolve the many dysfunctions detected since the development of fiber in the territory for many months. “Actions which are still not up to the problem encountered by certain inhabitants of Paris ‐ Saclay. In particular, the coordination of actors is even though it is the key to the success of a deployment of quality fiber, ”insists Grégoire de Lasteyrie, president (LR) of the Paris-Saclay agglomeration community and mayor of Palaiseau. Elected officials have always received too many administrator complaints: connection boxes left open, interventions by unidentified technicians or even the presence of complaints for incidents that have been open for months without a solution. “Still too many homes are penalized by these dysfunctions”, reproaches the agglomeration.
Reminder of commitments
Sophie Rigault, vice-president of Sipperec (Syndicat intercommunal de la peripherérie de Paris for energies and communication networks), and of the department of Essonne insists that operators accelerate the implementation of the precise commitments adopted in mid-October last. Exceeded by the scale of the incidents, the elected officials of the Paris-Saclay agglomeration had gathered on that date all the operators and stakeholders in the file demanding the implementation of quick and readable measures. “We understand in particular that the operators immediately put an end to all the interventions of their subcontractors which degrade the network”, demands Sophie Rigault. It also recalls the specific requests of elected officials to obtain precise data on the number of “incident tickets” and their age, as well as a concrete timetable for resolving existing problems.
A new stage is scheduled for January 28. The latest results of the deployment of fiber in the municipalities, precise figures on the number and nature of interventions as well as the connection failure rate will then have to be presented. The agglomeration declares itself, in the meantime, determined to “explore all possible avenues to obtain a rapid resolution of the situation”.
