Biodiversity: the Heritage Foundation examines the Pradère mill lake, near Toulouse
Located 25 km west of Toulouse, in the town of Castéra, the Pradère mill lake was the victim of a storm in 2017. “This 2000 m2 water area, a nature reserve for flora and fauna, was home to migrating birds in particular. But the storm filled the lake with earth and it is only 100 m2. It must therefore be rehabilitated to allow the return of true biodiversity, ”explains Bernard Cassagnet, regional delegate of the Heritage Foundation, which has included the site in its Natural Heritage program.
With a budget of 40,000 euros, thanks to the patronage of Primagaz, work should begin in January 2022 on this property in Hauts Tolosans, which also houses a 13th century mill. “There are only eight files which were selected at the national level in this call for projects. It’s an excellent new car, the result of two years of work on this very interesting natural heritage ”, rejoices Bernard Cassagnet.
“The mill is a very beautiful building that we would also like to have certified”, adds the regional delegate of the Heritage Foundation, which has, moreover, paid 300,000 euros for the restoration, in recent months, of the castle of Ginestous, near de Sesquières, where an Emmaus community will be established. Created in 1996 to help small landowners who had difficulty maintaining their historic property, the Heritage Foundation is now also aimed at communities and associations and an action extended to natural heritage.
