Midwives can prick pregnant women in the southwest of the Netherlands
ROTTERDAM (ANP) – Pregnant women in the southwest region of the Netherlands can now also be vaccinated by their obstetrician. The Rotterdam hospital Erasmus MC supplies the injections to the obstetric practices where they are needed. The clients can receive a vaccine as well as a booster. According to Erasmus MC, midwives notice that pregnant women sometimes have doubts about the safety of a vaccination. In addition, it is too far to travel. “Because an unvaccinated pregnant woman can become seriously ill from corona”. She thinks this new option will lower the barriers.
The region also includes Goeree-Overflakkee, for example. The intention is that future women will also be able to receive a vaccination here in the short term. A hospital pharmacist and professor from Erasmus MC ensures that the vaccinations are supplied ready for use and according to the guidelines. The injections are placed according to the rules of the RIVM.
Erasmus MC says it is concerned about pregnant women who develop complaints due to the corona virus. The hospital was investigating premature births as a result of placenta development due to the corona virus. So far, 33 pregnant women with Covid-19 have ended up in intensive care in the Rotterdam hospital; they were not or were incompletely vaccinated.
