Iran fears a sixth wave of infection. Prohibits entry from Norway.
People from Norway, Denmark, Great Britain and France are not allowed to enter Iran. They are afraid that Europeans will spread the omicron variant in the country.
Iran is one of the countries that has been hardest hit by the corona pandemic. The population has been through five tough waves of infection and is the worst affected country in the Middle East. In the last month, the arrows have pointed downwards, both on infection and death. But recently, omicron infection was discovered there as well. Well, the Iranians fear a sixth wave as the new variants break to say.
Iranian authorities therefore on Sunday banned entry from several European countries, including Norway. It reports the news agency Reuters.
The entry ban applies to people who come from Norway, Denmark, Great Britain and France and will be for 15 days in the first instance.
Travel restrictions on travelers from South Africa and several neighboring countries are also extended by 15 days.
Europe follows Norway and Denmark
In Iran, only fourteen cases of omicron infection have been detected so far. However, according to Reuters, official sources are concerned that dark numbers exist. They have warned that the virus could spread quickly again.
How to do it in Europe.
For a long time, Norway and Denmark were different countries, and the infection increased faster here than in other European countries. Well, the whole of Europe is lit up in dark red colors.
More than 100,000 daily infected
In France, the beat has reached new heights. On the second day of Christmas, a record was set with 104,611 infected in one day. It was also the first time the country saw over 100,000 infected per. day and the third day in a row that the country set infection records.
The records break across large parts of the continent, which was already described in November by the World Health Organization as the epicenter of the pandemic.
Britain crosses the 100,000 border just four days before France. On Christmas Eve itself, a total of 122,186 new cases of infection were reported. In Italy breaks the records for each passing day, and in Spain is the test capacity exploded.
From full shutdown to vaccine advice
While the infection is increasing across the continent, the authorities disagree on how to stop it. Around Europe, the omicron variant meets with everything from full shutdown to calls to take a third vaccine.
Although many Norwegians find the new initiatives in this country intrusive, the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte chose to shut down the whole country. All schools, restaurants, gyms and more. This is despite the fact that the infection trend has been downward since November.
I Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales the authority has instead chosen to limit how many people can be at events and how longer bars and restaurants can be open or serve. England has not introduced these measures, but uses coronapas in some places, and injunctions on the use of face masks in public places indoors.
Despite the infection records, the measures have been delayed in France. There, like Spain and England, they have mandatory bandages in public places, but otherwise no restrictions.
On Monday, it is expected that the government will make the vaccine passport valid only for those who accept a third vaccine dose. It reports the channel Al-Jazeera.
Opposition to measures
At the same time as European countries are being forced to deal with a new wave of infections, opposition to corona measures is spreading. Both Belgium, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands have held large demonstrations in the last month. Common to many of them is that vaccine opponents feel compelled to take the vaccine.
In Germany, for example, you have to show a corona passport to enter many public places. Authorities that are also discussing the possibility of vaccination are mandatory. Just like before Christmas, it became an organizer demonstrations in several large German cities against the proposal.
